1. For What It’s Worth                                                              - 172 Days and counting

Travels & Destinations
Outside Magazine (Online) had a recent article published titled, “10 Roads Every American Must Drive” which highlighted some good stretches of roads to explore.  2 of the roads listed are in Alaska, so we will have to think deeply about driving those desolate roads in Linus. Reliability on a long and desolate road can be a serious issue and we are not all that confident in our reliability. We have never taken a long road trip in Linus, maybe only a 3 or 4 hours drive each way is the max we have taken him and that was just a weekend trip for wine tasting up in Los Olivos, CA.  We never had any real issues then, but out on the open road you gotta expect breakdowns with an older vehicle.  We will carry some common spares such as fuses, belts, bulbs, wiper blades, etc, as well as jumper cables, tow straps, hand winch & cable (aka come-a-long), battery charger, and whatever else I can think of within reason.

To be continued…

World Cup Soccer
Well, Germany won the final over Argentina yesterday to tears from many, many Argentinian fans yesterday. These people must live for their futbol.  I mean, there should be no crying in futbol.  But there were many tears from women, men and children in the stands as well as in many homes I am sure.

Germans would never show that much emotion since they are quite the stoic bunch. Being mostly German, I have been stoic as well as quite emotional at times. I probably get my caring side from my Mother, Janie.

My Mother was quite a caring individual, always feeding birds during the winter by throwing out bread in our back yard when the grass was all covered with snow. The birds have to eat, she would always say.  I do miss her kindness and words of wisdom so much.

Simple Joys of Life & Words of Wisdom

“Over my life, I often suspected conspiracy, but, in the end, it’s almost always Incompetence!”

2.  Famous Quotes

Who is credited for saying the following quote?

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."
