1. For What It’s Worth                                                              - 169 Days and counting

Travels & Destinations

Florida and the Keys
Now, for the record, I have been to Florida so very many times, that I never really need to go there ever again, except for the Florida Keys area.  I never have been down there in all my travels except maybe flying over that area back in my USAF flying days.  I have always been curious where Hemmingway hung out, getting drunk daily and being all manly and stuff.  Jimmy Buffett hung out there also, which is nice.  Love me some JB tunes and it is also some good drinking music.

For those of you that are geographically challenged, the Keys are a series of islands that run away from the tip of Florida.  At the very end is Key West, our furthermost South destination of our Eastern Coast leg of our road trip.

I hope we will be there when it is less crowded, which is basically the main plan during this trip, to visit places when most of the crowds are gone and we can have the places to all ourselves.  It may not always work out that way, but it is basically what our intent is.  We are going to try to camp out in the middle of nowhere and off the grid (it is called boondocking in the camping vernacular) as much as possible.  As long as we have food and water, we should be golden in this effort.

After reaching Key West and hanging around there for a while, we will most likely head back towards the Chicagoland area for a spell.  That is not written in stone, but we do want to drive the Old Route 66 from Chicago all the way back here to Santa Monica, California.  Since we will have no deadlines to really meet, we might divert over to Austin, Texas to catch the Formula One (F-1) Race, which occurs around Halloween annually. We will just play that by ear, as all of our plans will be basically made and enacted.  We will have plenty of time to go wherever we desire.  That is what it is all about, isn’t it?  Enjoying the journey with tentative destinations along the way.  Some of the best times are unplanned occurrences that are totally unforeseen.   “All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.”
