Motorcycle Road Trip
It was our third day on the road as we departed the Monterey Bay area in the morning and headed Northeast into the Sierra-Nevada Mountain Range.  A friend of Billy’s, Garfield, had moved back to the area where he grew up in the mountains and we were on our way to visit him.  He was living back with his parents temporarily in a small mountain community called, Twain Harte, located just west of the north end of Yosemite National Park.  As we rode into town, I could tell that it was a very nice place to spend some quality time.  We met up with Garf at his folks home, which was very nice also. We sat around and discussed over a few beers what we had been up to since the last time we saw each other back in the Yuciapa area maybe 6 months beforehand.  I do recall taking a shower and cleansing my body from all the road debris and what nature threw at us over the day’s long journey to the mountains.  I think we may have threw some steaks on the grill along with a baked potato as well as enjoying a nice crisp salad that night.  The exact details of the evening are a bit sketchy after 30 years or so, but I remember enjoying ourselves and our visit with our friend.

In the morning we headed back out on our iron horses and pointed them north once again.  Our next en-route destination was Grass Valley, where my friend Ron had recently moved to live with his older brother.  My face was still quite swollen, so our riding duration was limited that day.  Late in the day, we tried to find an established campground, but they were all full, so we did a bit of boon docking camping (which we called Outlaw camping back then) which was basically us riding off the road several hundred yards into the forest to set up our own camp.  It was getting dark by then so when we came to a decent place to set up camp we made sure to mark which way to travel to get back to the road in the morning.  We were near a stream, so Billy threw a line in the water and tried to catch us a fish for dinner.  I did my thing and started a fire and gathered up some firewood. Unfortunately, Billy had no luck with the fishing so we ate something out of a can that evening.  Nothing fancy but it was food in our belly.  We hung out by the campfire and later hit the sack.
