1. For What It’s Worth

Happy Anniversary to My sister Barbara and her husband Andrew on their 31 Year Anniversary!  Wow, it seems like it was only yesterday!

We are still waiting to hear from some of you regarding our back roads trip next year.  Fail to plan… Plan to fail… so plan ahead Peeps!

I have had some feedback from a few guys already that have showed some interest, so we are just throwing this out there in case someone has a flexible schedule and wants to see part of this great country camping and sightseeing as we travel along.

We plan to load photos and interesting writings about any interesting destinations or places we visit as much as possible, as a living journal as well as sharing our thoughts and adventures with you all.

I am also thinking about shooting some videos from on the road trip and posting some of them on You Tube.  I’ll need to come up with an appropriate title or pseudonym for publishing my videos.  If anyone has some ideas, good or bad, I am welcome to your suggestions. One guy calls himself, the “Nomadic Fanatic” which I thought was kinda cool. I thought about “Backroads Explorer” which has a good sound to it. I got plenty of time to think of a clever one. Let me hear ya!
All of these I’ll have to check online to see if they are taken already.

I still have tons of boxes that I need to go through that are stored in my extra bedroom as well as in the garage. Most of the stuff I probably forgot that I have and the remainder of the stuff is probably stuff I really don’t need. I need to find some of my Porsche memorabilia so I can sell it in the classified ads in my Porsche Club of America National Magazine or our Regional newsletter.  I may have written about this subject before, so if I did, my apologies.  I’m getting old and my memory is poor!

Earth Day 2014

1. For What It’s Worth

Happy Earth Day!  (I hope it is…)

What did I do for Earth Day? I rode a bicycle into work instead of driving a car. Being “Green” and trying to be eco-friendly does somewhat reduce my carbon footprint. I believe every little bit helps.

I heard a story a long time ago and it goes something like this…

A girl was walking along a beach and noticed a bunch of starfish that were washed way up onto the beach and they probably would not get back to the water, and would most likely end up dying there. So she decided to pick up a starfish and throw it back into the ocean. This went on for a little while when some guy observing this behavior asked what she was doing. She told him they would die if they did not get back into the ocean that they would all die, and she continued her good deed. The guy said, “Lady, this happens on every beach all over the world, and your efforts won’t make any difference really overall.” She smiled, picked up another starfish and threw it back into the ocean and said, “It made a difference to that starfish.” The man smiled and nodded with acknowledgement and picked up a starfish and threw it back into the ocean. J

So, did you do something positive for Earth day?  Go make a small difference! J

Well, the Blackhawks finally won a playoff game last night (Game 3), but only barely winning. They played some very sloppy hockey giving the puck away too many times in their own zone only to be saved by our goalie. Good thing we had Carey Crawford in as goaltender and he was playing his A Game last night. If we don’t pick up our game, we won’t be playing too much more hockey this season. Game 4 is tomorrow still at home, so let’s hope we get motivated and start playing 60 minutes of good hockey by then! Let’s go Blackhawks!

Yesterday and today I have been watching some You Tube videos about VW Busses and living in a bus or living the so-called van-life. I believe I can learn from other people’s experiences rather than learning them painfully and possibly costing you valuable time and money. Some are quite informative and some just tell you nothing of real value. So you end up sifting through the majority of them and doing so they inevitably lead you to other videos that could be of some value. We are doing this as we type this blog post now. We are watching the videos on the iphone and writing this blog on the laptop, except the videos keep hanging up and stopping all the time, which is quite frustrating and does piss me off to no extent. Why does this continue to occur? Stupid computers!

1. For What It’s Worth

Well, yesterday was 4/20 or better known as 420 Day, so did you, my hippie peeps? If you don’t know what that is, then you most likely don’t need to know. J  If you did celebrate that day appropriately, then good for you! J

Well, the Formula One Race Season has been quite surprising so far. With all the regulation changes, it has the former 4 time World Champion Sebastian Vettel and Team Infinity Red Bull lost for answers. It seems that Mercedes has the right chassis and engine set up dominating the races winning all 4 F-1 races so far. My team, Scuderia Ferrari, finally got on the podium with Fernando Alonso finishing third yesterday. He is so consistent and unrelenting, that is why he is my favorite driver and he is on my favorite team.  The Aussie driver Daniel Riccardo is looking good for Team Infinity Red Bull always seeming to be right there in the fight. Now we have a three-week break until the next race in Spain, Alonso’s home country. It would be great if he could win that race, which I don’t think he ever has done before.

The hockey playoffs have been quite a disappointment so far. The Blackhawks have been up 3-2 in both games against St Louis going into the third period, and seem to give it all away in the final period with some very sloppy play, and some questionable calls and non-calls from the officials.  Coach Q visually let the refs know what he thought after the first game, Thursday night, costing him a healthy fine. Oh well, we are at home tonight for Game 3 and playing without our key defenseman Seabrook, it will be a tough game to win but we can do it. Time to lace up those skates and hit the ice fiercely!  Let’s go Blackhawks!

Although the official baseball season has been in full force for several weeks, I have yet sat down to watch a full Cubs game this year.  Heck, last year I did not sit and watch one full Cubs game all year, that’s how depressing and how distraught I was with their team or lack there of ending the season 31 games out with a final record of 66 Wins and 96 losses. The only consolation is that our cross-town rivals, the White Sox, sucked even worse with a final record of 63 wins and 99 losses. This year with a record of 5 wins and 12 loses already, it looks like pretty much a repeat of another disappointing baseball season for us Die Hard Cub Fans. Oh, if Harry Carey could see us now, he would be crying for more beer to drown his sorrows. I can’t say that I would blame him… It is becoming comical at best.  It is so painful to see such pitiful and dismal play from our team.  The future isn’t looking that bright either. L  It’s gotta happen someday, right?

                                                                    Go Blackhawks!

1. For What It’s Worth

I just realized this Sunday is Easter.  I really don’t celebrate it but I remember fond memories of Easter mornings and going to church. I remember doing double and triple duty as an Altar Boy doing multiple services some years. Our priests used to call them the C & E crowd, Christmas and Easter services attendees. The collection baskets seemed so full those days, even overflowing at times. It seemed that communion service went on forever also.  My arm would get tired from holding the little server tray under the chins of communion recipients.  I went to visit my parents in Arizona in the early 2000s during Easter weekend and when I woke up I had a visit from the Easter Bunny. My Mom told me, you can run, but you can’t hide!  My Mom was really the best person to raise me.  Always fair and always honest with me. She taught me a lot of how to treat people right and how to take care of others. I miss her and my Dad daily.  They both were great examples of how to be good humans!  I try to be worthy of the faith they had in me.

I have tons of boxes that I need to go through that are stored in my extra bedroom as well as in the garage.

I do receive grief from some people about being Agnostic. That does not mean that I don’t believe in a higher being, it just means I am not sure who that may be, if anyone.  To some that means I am a bad person.  I believe that to be the contrary. I try to treat all people the same, with respect and kindness. I remember a friend of mine had a T-shirt made that said Atheist across the front and back. You would not believe what these so-called religious people would say to him.  Really hateful and hurtful things. His reply to them would be something like, I hope your God will bless you! They would look at him and make some other snide comment. Some religion they must be a part of.  John Lennon said it best, Imagine a world with no religion.

When I first got my VW Bus in September 2005, I had trouble finding just the right name for it. We had it named, Gus Gus the Bus, Kermit, Tudor the Turtle, Rolling Guacamole, and even Green-Go (Gringo).  We went through several names until I found the name that was just right, Linus! Linus is my own security blanket because I can sleep in it whenever I need to. It is my home on wheels and it can take me almost anywhere I want to go.

I am listening to Bob Dylan as I write this. Did you know that he is the original rapper? Screw all these other groups such as Run DMC, Tupac, Public Enemy or even The Beastie Boys.  Listen to Bob Dylan’s “Mr Tambourine Man” and then tell me that he is not rapping. He also was one of the first guys to ever do music videos. MTV came along about 15 years later.  And for you youngsters who don’t know their history, Bob Dylan was the voice of the sixties for many people. He also received so much flack when he went from his acoustic guitar and started playing the electric guitar.  The folk music movement had a fit and some considered him a traitor to his roots of folk music. He just explained that it was a natural transition of his music. That what artists do, they change with time and evolve as artists, otherwise they will do the same thing over and over again, which is not really art. The bands that learned to do this became iconic, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, U2… all iconic and legendary bands that evolved into something significantly more.

Lately I have been coming across stupid names for people’s kids.  Don’t these parents know that their kid is going to have to go through life with their joke of a name?  I have seen some pretty stupid names such as Keshawna, Kindle, Neveah (Heaven backwards), Miley, Honey Boo Boo, Meadowsweet, and some other remarkably stupid names. What is wrong with Mary, Michael or just something traditional? You can always give them your own nickname, which is what I do with most kids I care about. Give these kids a break and name them something respectable.  Be a parent and not a Facebook post for all to marvel at your brilliance.

If you must, please name your dog something stupid if you must but back off the kids with strange names. If your kids have happened to name your grandchild a stupid name, I am sorry. Go kick your kid to the curb or go beat the crap out of them and give your grandchild a cute nickname that you will call them forever from now on. Some people should really not procreate and they actually identify themselves to everyone else by naming their kids something so very stupid.  I dare you to tell me you have named your kid something stupid and you better get ready to get quickly bitch-slapped. You have been forewarned!  Some of you get ready to duck a direct hit.  Sorry folks… I can’t help myself this time… Stupid people make me do some strange things!

I watched the second installment of the “Survivorman, Bigfoot” series last night.  Some more interesting footage and some strange sounds.  There was a close up shot that I don’t see how could have been faked unless they had a very expensive Hollywood costume or make up artist. I recommend that you try to catch these shoes and then make up your own mind. I believe he will get some footage of his own in due time since he is a filmmaker himself. He keeps saying that he won’t jump to any conclusions, but I believe he is leaning towards believing it himself.  At least he knows it can be at least plausible.

For a week now I have wondered why they didn’t have a trail camera set on the apples they left out on the trees? Why didn’t they use an Infrared camera to measure heat signatures? Night vision cameras need to be used away from campfire flare up and ambient light overload. I know we don’t need to tell these well-known facts to a world-renowned filmmaker such as Les Stroud. He knows more about this than any of us casual weekly viewers do.  I know I am looking forward to seeing more of the same subject featured.

Does anyone else have trouble opening up videos when it gets closer to lunch time, or is it just me? I swear, everyday just before lunchtime accessing videos and some websites gets so difficult that it drives me crazy. The progress bar will go maybe a quarter of the way across and then just hangs up and goes no further. WTF is up with that? Stuff should just open up quickly and then begin to show it’s content. I should not have to constantly keep hitting the return to get it all to work. Then after wasting 15 or 20 minutes and getting nothing for your efforts, you give up and go on to another task at hand to work.
