1. For What It’s Worth                                                              - 235 Days and counting

Writer’s Block
I kind of have a bit of writer’s block at the moment.  I guess that is why I write a lot when the moment hits me. I do write some narratives in advance and put them in a narrative library, if you will. This way when I get stuck and my mind is not putting out issues to write about I have a fall back option available to utilize. It is usually some rant I have that I need to let go of or some observation I have made and would like to share. Some days I have a lot to write about and some days I got nada. That is just the way it happens some days. No rhyme or reason for either condition.

Some days I have something negative to write about that I am hesitant to do so because some readers think I may be talking about them or some may take it personally when it was never intended to be that way.  I try to let some things I write about simmer for a day or two before I publish it, just for that reason alone. So, if you read something I write and you think it is about you, you might want to rethink that thought. It just may be only a coincidence because I know a lot of people and I will not attack someone intentionally using this semi-public medium.

Go Blackhawks!
One more game to win and our Blackhawks get to move on to the Western Conference Finals, to either face the LA Kings or the Anaheim Ducks. LA is currently up 2-1 in that best of 7 series. I could be a repeat of last year’s Western Conference Finals, hopefully with the Blackhawks coming out victorious once again. It is funny to see all the fair-weather fans in Southern California that come out during the playoffs when one of their teams is still in the running. So, to all you fair-weather fans, get ready for some serious disappointing days ahead. The Blackhawks are on schedule to make it back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships! This historical milestone is for the entire world to see… the hockey dynasty of this decade!
Go Blackhawks!

Really Roughing It
I saw this new show called Alaskan Bush People about this family of 11 who all apparently live in a one-room cabin located in rural Alaska.  Talk about too close for comfort!  How did they make the younger kids when the other kids were sleeping in the same room?  Talk about an awkward situation and they have 9 kids! Geez, I guess dear old dad did not care who was watching or listening to the beast with two backs reproducing more offspring. Some weird stuff had to be going on in that cabin some nights. Maybe they sent all the kids out to go hunting for lunch and supper? Could you imagine trying to do that with all those kids around?  Lots of pressure there if you ask me.

Formula One Championship
This past weekend the F-1 Racing community was in Barcelona, Spain for the Spanish Grand Prix which was won again by Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes PETRONAS Racing, making it 4 in a row for Hamilton and five in a row for his Team Mercedes in the constructor’s championship. Looking dominant once again, The Silver Arrows were off and running and finishing just as they started 1 & 2 on the grid. It looks like they will run away with the championship easily by replacing Team Red Bull Racing and the four time World Champion, Sebastian Vettel as the premier front-runner.  Scuderia Ferrari seems to be wallowing in third place having only making it to the podium once with a third place effort in Shanghai only just a few short weeks ago. The Grand Prix of Monaco is the next race to take place in the historic and unchanging streets of Monte Carlo, a race I would love to see in person.
It would most likely cost me half of my retirement pay to do so.

Things That Piss Me Off:
Trying to act too cool in photos
I hate when peeps try to look so cool in their photos. They think if they flash two fingers backwards that it is a peace sign. Well, that ISN’T a peace sign you idiot!  A peace sign is displayed with your folded fingers facing outwards toward the camera and the two with the V upright. Mostly these are young wannabe hipsters who have no idea what the heck they are doing, but they know they are just way too cool and have to validate that perception in a photo for all of us to see that they are really stupid.  Go ask a hippie or former hippie how to do it properly and get it right, dumbass.

1. For What It’s Worth                                                              - 238 Days and counting

Go Blackhawks! Game 4 tonight in Minnesota!

A First for Me
Last night I had a dream with my dog Snoopy in it. I guess I must love her because if she made it into my dream, then it must be so.  She is a good puppy dog. Being her Butler is not always an easy thing, but she is now a family member. She is not my kid either, so let’s not do a disservice to her. She is a first-class dog, not a second-class human.  She gives me two paws up and several wags in agreement on this one! J

Traveling Websites
I recently found a unique website called Harvest Hosts, which is a membership ($40.00 per year) that has signed up businesses such as farms, orchards, vineyards, wineries, breweries, dairies, wildlife rescue organizations, maple sugar shacks, and various types of businesses of all kinds who allow you to stay on their private property overnight for free if you have a self-contained RV. Linus has a port-a-potty, so that usually qualifies as being self-contained. They do ask that you patronize and buy something from these establishments such as fresh produce, maybe some wine, jelly, cheese or whatever they have there to sell. Most of these places have tours you can go on to get the full experience of their passion and their business. It might be something to look into later on down the line.

House
If you don’t know by now, I watch the TV show “House” a lot thanks to the DVR.  Not that I know anything about medicine or how to treat ailments, but it is all about his personality.  I wish it was still being produced, but it is still alive in syndication. I love his wit, his sarcasm and his obsession with figuring out puzzles. We seem to have a lot in common also, for example:

He has a bad leg, always in pain & walks with a cane = Bad back, bad right knee, always in pain & walks with a cane

He takes lots of meds = I have lots of meds

Super smart and very observant = Semi-smart (debatable) and quite observant

Low tolerance for almost anything = Low tolerance for almost anything

Demands quality & excellence = Demands quality & excellence

Loves good music = Loves good music

He says what he thinks = I have been trying hard not to say all that I am thinking J

Do you see any parallels here? I can relate to his character more than I could ever document here. I try not to be an ass all of the time, but I can be at times I know.  It does take some time to change many years of unbridled negative behavior. I recognize it and know I can do better. I’m working on that part. I ask for your patience and understanding. J

Things that really piss me off :

Ignorant People
I hate when people see some person, apparently from another country, struggling with the English language, and they say something stupid such as, “Learn to speak English.”  We have this guy in our office who is that way, a real dumbass. This ignoramus has the gall to talk about one lady in our office who came all the way here from Vietnam. He said something like, “She shouldn’t even be allowed to work here, her English is so bad, it is hard to understand her.” I turned and said to him, “I believe her English is so much better than your Vietnamese.” Then he replies with something like, “I don’t speak Vietnamese.”  I responded with, “Exactly! So shut the fuck up and keep your bigoted comments to yourself!”  He’s such an ass and a bit of a bully I believe. Well, he knows how I feel about it now, that’s for sure. J

1. For What It’s Worth                                                              - 239 Days and counting

Leave a message
Why do people have their ID on their phone blocked these days? Do people really think that the party they are trying to reach will answer their phone when someone on the other end of the phone line is trying to be stealthy?  It pisses me off and it is stupid and a complete waste of time, my time and their time. I also hate it when someone calls me and leaves me a message and tells me to call them back, not stating what they want to discuss. So I make it common practice to never call them back ever. If you need some info, then tell me what you need in your voicemail or message. Don’t call me and then tell me to call you back because it just won’t happen. You will have a very, very long wait on your hands. I have no patience for stupid and inconsiderate people any longer.

Telemarketers
I had a roommate that was in sales and we would get phone calls from telemarketers during dinnertime. He would put them on speakerphone and then let them go through all their scripted sales lines and then lead them on with nonstop questions. He would signal to me to write up some stupid questions while he would do this and then just act like he was just some simpleton with money. Sometimes he would use a strange accent and just play these fools like they were a large mouth bass on a fishing line. It was quality entertainment for a good twenty minutes sometimes.  He was very good at playing their games and loved wasting their valuable time every chance that he could get. Another friend used to give the phone to his 3-4 year old kid and let them talk to them for a while. Fun with telemarketers is free quality entertainment!

Headwinds
I have noticed during this time of the year I have headwinds all the way home on my bicycle ride after work. How come I don’t have tailwinds on the ride into work? What’s up with that? I have to ride north and west to get home.  North is not bad but riding west can be tough with those constant nasty onshore breezes, especially during this time of the year.  The good thing is that it is basically all flat terrain for the ride in and going home except for a block or so just before crossing Sepulveda Blvd., which isn’t bad at all. I did take my bike in last Friday on my day off to have them repair a faulty cable, which was no charge since they just worked on it recently. Now it rides nicely and doesn’t change gears whenever it want to, which is nice. I like when things work as they should! It makes the ride so much more enjoyable! J
